Film Solicitation Project

Work as the Senior Solicitation Assistant for the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. I lead a team of five other interns to create a solicitation spreadsheet consisting of over 1200 films. The data included the film title, festival information, contact/distributor information, and specific film details (short vs. feature, trailer, website). While the other interns researched films, I compiled all of their findings in addition to my own into an anchor spreadsheet and worked with our boss to complete the process. The project was very successful, we increased the amount of films solicited from the previous year by over 30%.

Website Analysis

Here is a video I created analyzing one of the most popular comedy websites. It has recently developed a new streaming program aiming to change the way people view comedy. See the video below:

Prop Problem Solving

When I was Assistant Stage Manager for a Christmas Production at the Second City in December of 2013, my tasks included finding and purchasing props. I was given a budget and a time frame in which the props needed to be found. One morning, we needed a Thor hammer by the eight o’clock show that evening for $10 or less. After researching the cost of the toy hammer at toy stores, I discovered the cheapest one was about $25 and concluded that they were all too expensive. So, I visited a local crafts store and purchased a cardboard roll, a styrofoam block, and some paint and spent the afternoon making a hammer. The ending product was a huge hit: it was under budget, used in the show, and still resides in the prop room to this day.

Class Website

I created a class website for a digital writing class. We looked at what it means for texts to appear digitally rather than on paper and the ways they varied. We also discussed ways in which to write more successfully on a digital platform. The website is:

Expense Report Management

As a Production Intern at the Second City, I was in charge of managing my boss’ expenses. She would often give me a pile of receipts which I then compiled into a spreadsheet of expenses. The spreadsheet included date, vendor, item, account charged, department responsible, and total cost. At the end of the month I would total up the expenses, get it approved by my boss, then send it to accounting for their records.

Analysis Paper

I did a shot-by-shot analysis of a short clip from Tod Browning’s 1931 film Dracula for a class I took at university. I examined each shot and depicted what the director was attempting to illustrate through his camera work. The clip can be seen here:
